Technology In My Future Classroom

'Technology - the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, esp. in industry.' So does this mean that we NEED technology? In my opinion, no it does not. Okay, yes technology is a good thing to have, especially in a school classroom. BUT, i believe that in order to have effective teaching methods in your classroom you need to have lessons plans with and without technology. Meaning, rather than having your entire curriculum based around technology, one should make sure they have a back up plan without technology as well. I also believe if you make your students too independent on technology they will think that everything is based off technology. Which is wrong. There are always other options. Although, on the other hand, technology does help with teaching students creativity and it can thoroughly show their individuality.  And, teaching students technology at a young age does prepare them for college level work as well.

In my future classroom , yes i will use technology to its full potential. But i will not let my students be dependent on it. This upcoming generation is already too dependent on the internet, cell phones, etc. And i would like to teach my kids that the world doesn't need to revolve around technology. However, when i do use technology in my lessons i will be sure that it is just an accessory to the lesson, it will not be the lesson. For example, if i give my students an assignment to make an Inspirations Concept Map, about how words link together. Yes the map will be fun to make, but them doing this assignment will help them see truly how words link themselves together.

Although, even though i will use technology. My students will not be dependent. ( yes i know i have already said this) But, they will still read books. I will have them read at least one book a month, this will make them look away from their computers, cell phones, and tv's for at least a half hour - to an - hour a night. It may not seem like much but it is a huge start.

The picture above, is how i want my students to one day be.I want them to be able to read a book or go outside rather than playing around on all of the technology in their homes. Students are taught now a days that technology is more important than sitting down , relaxing and reading a simple book.

So in conclusion, i have mixed emotions on technology in the classroom. I think that it DOES teach some good lessons, but i also think that it can be a hassle. I would always make sure i had a couple plan b lessons just in case the lesson with the technology does not work out.
